We often get asked if it is best to spend money on SEO or Adwords and what the difference is.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO is a method of online marketing that focuses on getting better rankings in the search engine results pages of Google, Yahoo, Bing and other major search engines. SEO helps you to rank higher in the organic, or natural search results. Properly implemented SEO optimizes your site in terms of keywords, content, links, and other technical aspects. In order to do this, you need to make sure that your website is search engine friendly. We ensure all of our websites are SEO friendly when developing them but to achieve the best results we need to implement an ongoing SEO campaign.
Adwords is an advertising platform owned by Google that allows you to position your paid advertisement on the top or right-hand side of the search results pages on Google and other affiliate websites. As an advertiser you can choose to either pay when someone clicks on your ad (Cost Per Click or CPC) or when people see your ad (CPM or Cost per Thousands Impressions). The whole Google Adwords platform works like an auction where advertisers compete for the available advertising spots.
- Adwords traffic is paid while SEO traffic is free (well kinda, you aren’t paying for you spot you have worked to get there over time, which usually cost money)
- Adwords ads appear in the same place all the time (the top and right of a Google Search) but with SEO you have to work much harder to get one of the top positions in the organic search results.
- Adwords is more immediate than SEO since you can create advertising campaigns almost instantly and start getting targeted traffic. However wiht SEO you need a lot more time to get good rankings and traffic, we recommend a minimum of 3 months SEO and 6 months for new websites.
- With Adwords it is easier to measure how your advertising budget is being spent and keeping track of your return of investment.
- SEO can provide more long term benefits. Once you get to page one you will typically stay there.
Deciding what method is right for your business will depend on a few things. Budget, timeframe and existing competition.

Your social media marketing can be broken down into two distinct categories – your organic endeavours and your paid endeavours. The goal of both tactics is of course first to get more likes, followers and engagement from these to go on to acquire actual conversions in terms of sales online of in a physical store.
Your organic efforts will mostly consist of professional design and engaging content creation. You will be showcasing your business, providing links to new products or exciting news on your website. Through these you will be hoping to expand your reach across the internet, build your brand awareness and drive traffic to your website – and it works.
So, since it’s working so well, why would you want to start buying your way to the top of social media feeds? Surely paying for social media success defeats the purpose, right? Well, yes and no. The problem is that, even though your organic efforts will serve you well, they will only ever take you so far and Facebook makes sure of it.
If you’ve been on Facebook for long enough then you will remember the days before the Facebook news feed algorithm changes. Up until this moment in social media marketing history, all of your followers saw all of your posts in their feeds. That’s just how it was. It was free, it was fair, it was easy.
However, since the creation of Facebook advertising, things have changed very much. Facebook no longer allow all of your followers to see all of your posts, now you need to pay for Facebook advertising to make sure that your posts get the same reach that they did previously. It’s been a cunning business move indeed, but one that only benefits Facebook. Everyone else has to deal with it.

Below we have outlined some of the techniques we have in mind when designing websites for our clients. Let’s take a look at how businesses can marry clean and simple design with an effective landing page that still delivers.
Keep it Simple
Don’t overload your visitors with too much information. The cluttered look is out. Simplicity is in, producing a polished experience for the user, along with a chance for your businesses to emphasis on just the few strong points of your product or services.
Know Your Audience
Know your audience: it’s basic marketing 101. Even businesses that don’t meticulously record this information are at least aware of their general customer base — it’s simply common sense. Regardless of your industry or business size, you should be paying attention to visitor profiles, It’s important to have a basic understanding of your customer base and know who is looking at your website. Optimize your website to speak to your visitors, anticipate their needs and engage with them.
Get Rid of Distractions!
Create a harmonious layout, using white space to distribute and balance you page elements evenly. Having a cluttered page makes the users experience difficult. It might not be totally possible to eliminate all distractions but you can at least minimize the number and frequency.
We gauge credibility and trustworthiness through collective judgment, so seeing a business or website that our friends “like” makes us more likely to do the same. The more likes a page has the more convincing it is to prospective customers that your product or service will add value to them. Social validation can be a simple as adding customer reviews and testimonials.
Split Test Everything
Split testing is a simple way to test changes to your page against the current design and determine which ones produce positive results with the goal of improving a website metric, such as clicks, form completions, purchases or whatever else your goals may be. By measuring the impact that changes have on your metrics you can ensure that every change produces positive results.

Presenting your business professionally with branding helps you stand out and adds credibility and trust.
